The Grand Manan Whale and Seabird Research Station promotes research and education to conserve the environs of the Lower Bay of Fundy and the marine mammals, seabirds and all other living species that call the bay home. We house the Gaskin Museum of Marine Life, a self-guided experience offering a fun-filled opportunity to learn about the bay and its inhabitants. In 2023, we will be actively engaged in:

  • Conducting surveys and deploying tags on basking sharks to look at movement patterns and diving behaviour

  • Tracking movements of female lobsters with the help of the local fishery

  • Using innovative techniques to monitor changing ocean temperatures which can affect all inhabitants of the Bay

  • Collecting and analyzing zooplankton, so that we can assess the stability of the base of the Bay of Fundy food web
